Scary Stuff

I just saw this video on christine's blog and it scared the crap out of me.  For the past few weeks I have been sad because I haven't really been able to take advantage of my work's summer hours (supposed to get off at noon on Fridays but last Friday I ended up working until 8pm!).  I was so looking forward to going to the pool to read and tan.  I even bought a chaise lounge chair for my patio so I could try to work out there in the sun on my work-from-home days (turns out black computers get REALLY hot out in the sun!).

There is just something about having a tan that is so nice.  I love seeing tan lines.  It reminds me of summers gone by and all the fun I've had in the sun and vacations and the beach and well...just happiness!  But the sun causes cancer just like cigarettes (which's been 99 days without a cigarette for me woo hooo!!).  I've had my fair share of sunburns and I need to be better about protecting myself because melanoma is real and it is scary!

This was a wake up call for me...I actually teared up at work right as someone walked up to my desk.(embarrassing)!  Watch it.  Maybe it will be a wake up call for you too.

My grandfather died of skin cancer that metastasized to his bone. It was not melanoma but a form of sarcoma that usually is treatable. I remember him telling me the reason he had it was because of when he was young. They didn't have sunscreen back then. When I was in high school I would tan all the time but once he passed away I refused to ever set foot in a tanning bed and I use sunscreen like crazy. Personally I would rather be pasty than have the risk of getting cancer.

I'm done now! :o)

Congrats on being smoke free for 99 days! Keep it can do it!

Teared up? I was crying my eyes out! I just had a scare with melanoma recently and it's forever changed me going to the tanning bed for that "wonderful glow". Congratulations on being smoke free!!

This is precisely why I freak out if my 6 1/2 year old get's just an inkling of sunburn. Skin cancer took my grandmother when she was in her early 20's. My father was only 3. My son and I have both inherited the reddish hair and pale skin. Great video, definitely sharing with others!
